EXPANDED METAL
A continuous copper network with an open, directional texture. Develop the mesh around the visible finish or electrical function required, rather than treating every copper opening as interchangeable.
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Copper expanded metal is produced by slitting and stretching solid copper sheet into a continuous network of strands and openings. Starting sheet thickness, strand width, SWD, LWD, mesh direction and the raised or flattened profile determine the final appearance and handling characteristics. These parameters should be coordinated with finished panel dimensions, edge support and the surrounding assembly.
The natural copper surface gives architectural screens and interior components a distinctive warm appearance that can change gradually with exposure. The connected strand structure can also support selected conductive applications, but electrical continuity, shielding or electrochemical performance must be assessed using the actual mesh, joints and contact design. Typical inquiries include feature screens, ventilation panels, decorative inserts and specified conductive components.

MATERIAL SELECTION
Connected copper strands provide a continuous metal path, while the opening direction gives designers a visible texture to work with.
Fine strands can distort during handling. Agree edge support and surface protection; electrical performance must be checked for the actual mesh, joints and contact arrangement.
Interior screens, feature panels and specified conductive components. Shielding or electrochemical requests require a separate functional specification, not a generic application claim.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Final dimensions and compatible combinations are confirmed against the approved drawing or mesh specification before production.
Confirm grade, sheet condition and any conductivity or composition requirement in the order.
Give starting thickness and strand width; include handling or forming constraints.
State SWD, LWD and pitch-versus-opening definitions.
Provide raised or flattened profile, finished dimensions and orientation.
Separate appearance finish, cleanliness and contact-surface requirements.
Common specifications are regularly stocked, while non-standard sizes, materials and finishes can be produced to order. Final quantities and delivery schedules are confirmed with the quotation.
FROM SHEET TO FINISHED EXPANDED METAL
Separate appearance, electrical and mechanical requirements.
Agree mesh pitch, strand width and sheet condition.
Review expansion and any flattening against the drawing.
Specify flat support, finish protection and packing expectations.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Material, specification and commercial details are confirmed for the actual project.
No. Expanded mesh is formed from sheet with integral strands; woven mesh uses intersecting wires. Their geometry and edge behavior differ.
Submit the frequency range, attenuation target and contact design. The installed system must be assessed, not only the copper material.
Do not assume it will. Confirm the finished geometry and tolerances for the selected process.
Discuss the finish and maintenance requirement; natural copper should not be described as permanently color-stable.
Specify whether it needs flat support, separators or a frame, and agree protection appropriate to the strand geometry.
